About me

My name is Fen.  I’m a Shiatsu practitioner (MRSS), Holistic Clinical Aromatherapist and Massage Therapist (MIFPA).

For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep sense of connection and an inherent fascination with the manifestations of the natural world -  its rhythms, forms, smells, wonder and intrinsic power to heal.  As a young sufferer of eczema and bronchitis, I was taken by my mother to see various complementary practitioners – always encouraging me to look beyond the obvious symptoms and to seek a deeper understanding of the root cause.  This early introduction to complementary therapies and medicine sewed a lifelong seed of respect and fascination.

Over 20 years ago, I was involved in a serious car accident.  I had excruciating back pain and I was in a state of deep shock.  I went to see various gifted practitioners, but the trauma of my experience appeared to have penetrated so deeply that I wasn't able to fully receive.  One of the practitioners I saw then recommended I try Shiatsu.  Even after my first treatment, I recognised that I had found something that had ultimately changed my life.  Not only did the treatment support me physically with the use of beautiful deep yet gentle stretches and structural manipulations, I felt safe and 'held'.  Years later, I made one of the most incredible and transformational decisions in my life, to train to become a Shiatsu practitioner.

Smell is the first sense we experience, and arguably remains the most powerful sense throughout our lives. My passion for natural aromas and botanical extracts led me to follow my heart and train as a Clinical Aromatherapist and Massage Therapist.  It is the greatest honour and delight to share my passion and bring the fragrant world to life for people - creating unique blends with some of the most exquisite organic and wild crafted aromatics.

I have practiced Yoga for nearly 20 years and in more recent years I have discovered Qigong. Practicing Yoga and Qigong helps me to feel at peace, to feel connected with the Universe, cleansing my body and moving stagnant thoughts and habits, helping me to feel flow and movement and allowing me to be 'in hara' for myself and in my work as a happy practitioner.

About Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese therapeutic massage form developed alongside acupuncture but shiatsu, meaning 'finger pressure', replaces needles with hands and fingers, knees and feet, forearms and elbows, communicating through sensitive and intuitive touch.

The origins of Shiatsu lie deeply within Traditional Chinese Medicine – as with Acupuncture, the intention of a treatment is to restore and rebalance the body's vital life force, its 'Qi or Ki'.

A treatment is focussed along specific energy pathways or 'meridians', accessing acupuncture points and influencing energy flow, blood circulation, flexibility and posture with techniques such as stretching, holding and applying connected body pressure.

Shiatsu’s gentle yet powerful Japanese roots can also be seen in its still Zen influences, its meditative qualities that give us space from the pressures of daily life to self-reflect and listen to our intuition.  A course of Shiatsu treatments can help to build a deeper and more sustainable body memory; helping you to feel more empowered and 'in hara' - well grounded, focused and engaging body, mind and spirit.

How you can benefit from Shiatsu

Anyone can benefit from Shiatsu!  Reasons can include:

  • It calms and relaxes mind & body.
  • It can help restore and balance energy levels.
  • It eases tension and stiffness & can help improve posture.
  • It is a wonderful support during pregnancy and birth.
  • It can benefit circulation, breathing and immunity.
  • It can support on a profoundly emotional and spiritual level.

Shiatsu can also address a wide range of conditions from specific injuries to symptoms such as:

  • Stress, anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue.
  • Headaches and migraines.
  • Deep musculoskeletal pain, back neck and shoulder tension.
  • Digestive and bowel complaints.
  • Circulatory problems.
  • Rheumatic and arthritic complaints.
  • Sciatica and conditions following sprains and injuries.
  • Respiratory problems including asthma and bronchitis, sinus trouble and catarrh.
  • Menstrual and menopausal problems.
  • Side effects of cancer treatment.

Your treatment

Every session is different as each treatment will be in direct response to what your body presents.  A Shiatsu treatment responds to your body at that given moment in time; everything you bring to your treatment is relative and of utmost importance.

Your first session will include a full consultation.  I will ask you questions about your general health, medical history and emotional well-being that will help to give me a clearer picture; many of the questions will be according to a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis.

Shiatsu treatments are fully clothed. I recommend that you wear loose, comfortable and warm clothing.  It is best to avoid wearing anything restrictive such as a skirt, jeans or a belt or lots of dangling jewellery. Treatments take place on a futon at floor level, or a massage chair if getting on the floor is difficult.  Shiatsu has a cumulative effect so a short course of treatments, spaced out according to your needs, offers the maximum benefit.

Treatment costs

Initial consultation and treatment £50 (90 mins).

Follow up sessions are either 60 mins and cost £45 or 90 mins and cost £60.

Concessions are negotiable.
